April 29--We celebrated Julia's 7th birthday!!! Jim has Mondays off, so we went out for some shopping and then bowling, which is always a lot of fun. We only go once or twice a year at most, but the kids love it and were very excited to go. It was also nice because we almost had the place to ourselves, since we went the week after public school vacation. :) That night we had her party, complete with unicorn cake (another Family Fun creation!), grandparents, and great-grandpa, and some fun presents.
May 1-- This was an exciting night for us because Josiah trusted Jesus at bedtime!!! It was such a blessing for Jim and I to be able to talk and pray with him, and to know that now all our children have put their faith in the Lord. Now we pray for them to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Him!
May 6-- I got to go on a full and fun moms' day out with my dear friends Gail and Les. We try to do this once a year, and it is always a great day full of laughter, sharing, and shopping. :) Possibly my favorite stop was a large Goodwill store!! I love new clothes, but it really doesn't matter if they are brand new or just new to me. :) I came away with a couple of new shirts for myself, a few things for Sam, and a book for each of the kiddos--all for under $15. Yay! We also got to eat lunch and supper out--a big treat!--and checked out some new outlet stores, and a bunch of other places. So much fun!
Those are the highlights . . . but here are some other random things I haven't blogged about yet.
**On my birthday (way back on April 5), we spent the weekend with our good friends up in northern NH. We went snowmobiling for the first time!! We had a lot of fun, and our friends spoiled us with lots of yummy food, even a special birthday dessert, and wonderful fellowship.
**We've been seeing more wildlife than usual lately. Several deer have visited within the past month, and we had a mama bear and two big cubs come by our house on Sunday. It seems they were just passing through (we hope, since we have chickens!), but it was a neat blessing to see them. The kids didn't remember ever seeing a bear before in the wild, although Sam remembers seeing them in the Clarks' bear show, so it was a special treat for them!
**Jim rearranged our bedroom while Julia and I were shopping for his birthday! We had been talking about trying this new arrangement to see if it would make the room look bigger. I think it does. I'm still getting used to it, but so far I like it! No pictures yet--I'd like to get things straightened up a bit more in there and hopefully put up some pictures on the wall now that we actually have a little wall space where we could put them. :) And we seriously need to clean the carpet in there--we are really kicking ourselves now that we put carpet down in the first place. When the budget will allow, we are going to change it to wood flooring of some kind!! We also want to re-do the wall in there because the wallpaper looks terrible. We are not good wallpaper-ers and the seams are all peeling apart. Sad, because it's a really pretty wallpaper . . . but I think we will be happier with paint or putting wood over it. Future project! :)
**Running update: I'm still hanging in there with the Couch to 5K program--I'm really enjoying it! Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook have seen my updates over the past weeks, but right now I am working on week 7 out of 9 weeks. I am currently running a 13:57 mile, and can run for 25 minutes straight, which works out to a little over 1.75 miles. While I am not up to a 5K yet, either in time or distance, I am really happy with the progress I've made so far. And I'm especially happy with how energized I feel after a run! I'm hoping to continue increasing my time and distance, and maybe I will even work up the courage to run a real 5K by the end of the summer or sometime next fall.
Well, this post has been in the works for over a week, and it's finally done! Now that I've jumped back into blogging, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with it a little better. :) I still have several book reviews waiting to be posted, recipes to share, and just normal life stuff to talk about. I'm having trouble fitting blogging into the routine, as it is hard to find a time lately where I can really concentrate without interruptions. But now that the biggest hurdle (a long update) has been crossed, hopefully I can do better with small, regular posts. :)
