Shred into Summer

It's been a while since I posted anything about health and fitness here...probably because I'm not making a whole lot of progress! 😬  But I'm determined to make strides this summer of 2020.  Strides...get it? Ha.  Anyway...I've actually been doing pretty well being consistent with exercise over the past 5 months, getting in about 20 workouts each month.  Most of them have been just walking on the treadmill, with the occasional exercise DVD workout thrown in, or a regular walk, hike, etc.  But I wanted to try something more intense to see if it will help budge some of my stubborn weight.  I've had really good results in the past from using the 30 Day Shred DVD, so I decided to commit to working out with that, every day in June.  The last time I went alllll the way through the Shred, I think I was 35.  I've started it again multiple times since, but not as an every day thing, and I usually have fizzled about halfway through.  I figured if I publicly mentioned my goal, it might help me with accountability, plus I want to update every day or so and let you know how it's going.  So this will be the page for that.

June 1:  From past experience, I know I can get through this workout much better on an empty stomach, so I have the priority of getting up early and getting my exercise done before breakfast.  Day 1 was not as bad as I thought it might be!  Probably because I did several days of another Jillian workout, the Beginner Shred, last month, so I got some of the extreme soreness out of the way already.

June 2: I have a bit of soreness on the sides of my chest muscles, and some in my thighs.  This is normal when starting the Shred...I'm just glad it's not any worse.  Today's workout went well.  One thing I've always liked about this DVD is that the workouts are fast, though intense.

June 3: Today I found it harder to get through the workout without stopping for breath.  Not sure why...it might have been a bit more humid today?  My thighs were really burning with some of the exercises.  My face was dripping with sweat by the end!

June 4-6:  Mentally these might have been the toughest days to get through so far...because I'm past the beginning, but barely through the first half of the first level.  Plus the humidity was pretty bad.  On Saturday (day 6) I had a fan blowing on me through the workout, and that helped a lot.

June 7: Definitely feeling an increase in my endurance now.  Thankful!  I'm still modifying some of the moves, but others I'm able to do the more advanced version and that feels good.

June 8: Ahhh, the weather was so cool this morning!  It was amazing how much less sweaty I got.

June 9: Another cool morning.  My workout got interrupted several times by Josiah, who kept thinking the baby chickadees in our birdhouse were fledging.  (I think, but am not sure, that he was just seeing the parent chickadees...because they're still bringing food into the birdhouse.)  Taking breaks through the workout actually made it harder, for some odd reason.  My knees are bothering a little bit today, too.  I might have to dial back some of the moves...Jillian's workouts are notoriously hard on knees, so I want to be careful.

June 10: Final day of level 1.  For this level, my least favorite part is circuit 1, and my least favorite exercise is jumprope.  Which really should be an "easy" move, but for some reason it's really hard for me.
