Book Review: Going Rogue

Most of you who know me well know that I'm a bookworm. Sadly, I don't have quite as much time to read these days, but I still try to make some quiet time for reading now and then. Jim and I also enjoy reading together, a hobby that developed early in our marriage, and continues to this day. Since we have a long drive to and from church, I usually read aloud to him while the kids listen to Patch the Pirate (which we fade toward the backseat so he can still hear me reading :)). Anyway, the most recent book we read together was Sarah Palin's Going Rogue: An American Life. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very well written and gave me a lot more of an in-depth look at Palin, not just as a politician, but as a person--what she believes and lives out in day-to-day life. If the only picture you have of Sarah Palin is from what the mainstream media portrays, well, you should read this book! I was really impressed with her record as Alaska's governor, as well as her viewpoints on government that she shared in detail in the last chapter. Of course, there are some things I don't agree with her on, but my overall feeling after reading the book was that it's really nice to know there still are some good people out there, fighting for small government and change in America. (And not our current president's agenda of change.)

A secondary effect this book had on us was to make us want to move to Alaska. :) Honestly, it's something we've kicked around in the past--probably not something that'll ever happen, unless God gives us some really clear leading in that direction--but the way things are going in the US right now, living in a state that's not attached to the lower 48 sounds pretty good! :) I should also note that there was some language in the book--she was careful not to actually spell out most of the 4-letter words, but in quoting some of the campaign people, she did give a pretty clear picture of the way they talked. Just so you know!

I was able to get this book from the library . . . I ended up renewing it twice because it took us a while to get through it (not that it was dull at all--we just didn't have a lot of time to read, and missed a couple of our church drives due to sickness!). Anyway, if you're at all interested in conservative politics and/or Sarah Palin, I'd definitely recommend reading this book!

Our next read: Epicenter 2.0: Why the Current Rumblings in the Middle East Will Change Your Future by Joel C. Rosenberg. I'll hopefully be posting a review of this one soon!

ONe of my good friends is currently reading this book, too. I think I'll borrow it from the library after she returns it :-) I think that Sarah Palin is definitely an interesting person. I used to want to go to Alaska. Then I went to Northland & discovered that winter very nearly kills me - lol! Indiana is about as arctic as I can handle!

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was so inspiring!! I was blown away by her family's work ethic. Salmon fishing at 10 weeks post partum?! LOL!

Hey. If she comes to New Hampshire to campaign (for any reason), I am SO going to take the day and see her. Maybe we could go together.

This book made me want to move to Alaska, too, or atleast visit it. :-)
