Traditions: Christmas Cookie Baking

I am a big fan of traditions. I love making memories as a family, and traditions are a great way to help accomplish that! One of the traditions that the kiddos and I look forward to each year is baking Christmas cookies together. Admittedly, it's a bit of work and a lot of mess, but it's so much fun for them and for me, too! As you can see, Sam was just a little excited at the prospect of cookie baking!
Every year we make the same recipe--simple, foolproof sugar cookies. Easy to roll out, easy to cut.
I loved watching Julia--she was very much into the whole thing this year, and she did a great job, with minimal help from me.
Josiah wasn't sure what to think of the whole idea. We started while he was napping, so he awoke to kitchen chaos. :) Even though he didn't really participate much, he enjoyed the taste-testing later on!
Sam is doing much better than in past years at putting the sprinkles on carefully (vs. dumping them on in a pile). :)
Julia, on the other hand . . . well, let's just say we have some work to do. :) This was her first cookie (after I took off about half of the sprinkles).
Me and my littlest buddy! We were testing out the remote to get the camera ready to take pictures of all of us.
Apparently Sam has now entered the "make-funny-faces-for-every-picture" age. Lovely. He really was having fun, he just had to make a goofy face in every photo!
We had to take a picture of ourselves enjoying the finished products!
And one more take . . . not sure if I like the Goofy-Sam-in-Hiding better, or the just plain Goofy Sam. What a nut! At least the other two look normal in every picture. :)
Hope you enjoyed this peek into one of our special Christmas traditions!! If you want to look back at our past Christmas cookie adventures, you can read about them here, here, and here. And the cookie recipe I use is here.
And now I am off to bed!! :)

What fun!!! Seeing the photos was the next best thing to being there. I am so happy you are continuing the cookie baking tradition with your little ones. Work, yes, but what wonderful memories they will have!

What cute little bakers! :)

One of my favorite childhood memories is making cookies with my mom at Christmastime. Now I do it with my kids, too. We will be making sugar cookies this coming week.

I'm with you on the traditions - my dad was especially good at setting them up for us when we were all kids at home. Therefore, there wasn't really a lot of cookie making, but other fun activities. Love the pics & Sam's goofy faces. I love it when kids start to really show their personalities - even if it is in a rascal-y way!
