Last week, I saw the completion of a project that Jim started more than 8 years ago, back when we lived in our first home. The headboard and footboard of this beautiful log bed have been stored away in various places since that time, but last week he spent a few hours putting everything together, sanding all the logs, and putting on the urethane. Then he took it apart, and we muscled it into the house (okay, he was the one putting most of the muscle into the job, and we used a furniture dolly to help--this thing is HEAVY!!), and put it back together. And now we have a gorgeous four-poster bed! I loved the first log bed he made for us, but this one is even 10 times nicer. And I'm really glad we made our bedroom so big!! :)The headboard is a branch from a box elder tree that was (maybe still is) in the yard of some friends of ours.
The footboard is made from apple tree branches, from some trees that our landlord cut down at our first home.
I think the other logs mostly came from my parents' land, and our property here. It is kind of fun having a personal connection with the places all the logs came from. :)
