"The Works" works!

Okay, this is a somewhat unusual post for me . . . but I'm excited that I finally found something that makes our toilets sparkling clean! :) We have hard water and it leaves some pretty nasty stains in our potties. On Saturday I decided to give the master bathroom a good deep-cleaning . . . everything was looking good except those icky stains. Scrub as I might (and did!) I couldn't completely get rid of them. I tried Barkeeper's Friend first . . . it helped a little. Then I tried Zud . . . helped a little more. With both of those products I was scrubbing them in really hard with a little scrubby pad. I wanted to try them first because I already had them on hand. Then I went searching online for other ideas and kept seeing people recommending the toilet bowl cleaner "The Works." Apparently it's pretty harsh, but supposedly would work wonders. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try since we could get a bottle at the Dollar Store. At least if it was a flop, I would only be out a dollar! I read about how the fumes are so terrible, that you should wear a mask and have lots of ventilation . . . I have to say that in my opinion those reports were highly exaggerated. There was very little odor at all, in fact. I did use gloves, though. :) I poured in a bunch of "The Works" and let it soak for maybe a half hour or so. I wanted to give it plenty of time to work its magic. And lo and behold, it really DID work on my nasty looking potty!! I don't think it has been so sparkling white in several years. Just a little scrubbing action with the toilet brush, and it was totally like new. While I don't plan to use this cleaner all the time (I'm hoping to keep the stains at bay by daily swishing--something I usually forget to do), it's so nice to know there is a product that will get rid of those stains with very little effort on my part. Just wanted to share, in case any of the rest of you might have similar stain issues!! "The Works" is available at the Dollar Tree, Walmart, and probably lots of other places.

**Note: if you don't have really nasty toilets, you might not be as blown away by this product as I was. :)

This post made me laugh :-) I agree that the Works is a very effective cleaner. I remember one time when I was using it I got some on my nylon running shorts - burned a hole right through them & then started to burn my skin! Crazy but the toidie was sparkling!

there are times when a harsh cleaner is just the thing, for sure! I experimented and purchased a natural toilet bowl cleaner, and I am so unhappy with it! I hope I can use it up fast so I can go out and buy the kind I really liked. I try to use more natural cleaners on the other surfaces of our house, with great results, but toilets? They need a little extra oomph! :-)

I will definetely be getting some of this.:)Thanks for the review.I love to hear from REAL people what works and what doesn't.:)At least in the toilet you do not need to worry that it will come in contact with any skin.Nikki
