A snowy day . . .

Today we had a big snow, finally! I think we only ended up with less than 10", but that's the most we've gotten yet this winter at our house. So it was a big deal! :) Sadly, I didn't get any pictures of the kids out playing in it--I thought I had, but later realized the camera card wasn't in the camera--oops. Anyway, I had Sam do about half of his schoolwork for the day and after lunch, they went out to play. Jim came home early and plowed and shoveled everything, then he and I went and played too! I had to go back in before too long and get supper ready, but it was fun to be a kid for a while. :)

Then tonight after supper, we made a special treat: snow ice cream! It was the perfect time to make it since we had all that fresh fluffy snow outside. The kids had never had snow ice cream before, and it's been many years since I have. It's so easy peasy. I used Paula Deen's "recipe" which can be found here . . . basically you just get about 8 c. of snow, dump it in a big bowl, pour a can of sweetened condensed milk and a teaspoon of vanilla over it, and mix it all together (quickly!) till it's combined. Then serve and eat immediately! We put chocolate and butterscotch sauce on ours. Yummy! Easiest and cheapest ice cream ever. :) All in all, a fun day!

Snow ice cream?!? I've never even HEARD of that! Wow. How fun! We just got a fresh dumping of snow today and more is predicted tomorrow. I'll just have to get some sweetened condensed milk from the store since I don't have that on hand. Thanks for the super fun idea!!!

I saw snow ice cream for sale at a gas station (of all places!) once when we were traveling through North Carolina. I thought it was just some crazy gimmick. I didn't realize you could actually make snow ice cream - fun!
