Countdown to Christmas: 13/12 Days!

Oops, missed another day! :) Sundays are always kind of crazy and I totally forgot to blog until I was snuggling down to sleep last night. Oh well.

Suddenly, I'm starting to panic . . . we are pretty much finished shopping for our kids and much of the extended family, but I need to get some presents for my hubby! Thankfully he has an Amazon wish list with lots of things to choose from. :)

It also suddenly hit me tonight that I haven't made one single batch of Christmas cookies yet. Every year, the kids and I have a tradition of making sugar cookies. I can't miss that!!! I sat down and made a list of all the goodies I want to make . . . homemade hot chocolate mix, chex mix, several kinds of cookies, fudge, candy . . . not so good for the diet, but some of it is to share, and much can be frozen, also. :) Since we are down to less than 2 weeks till Christmas, I'd better get cooking!! I meant to have some of those goodies made before Jim's parents came, but I wasn't organized enough and all I ended up making was some chocolate chip cookies. Yummy, but not Christmas cookies exactly!

So, one of my projects for tomorrow is to do some baking. Or first, to make sure I actually have enough ingredients to bake. I know that several of my projects are going to require more butter, sugar, and other stuff than I have on hand. So I might be taking a trip to the store tomorrow. :)

How about you guys? Do you have special Christmas baking traditions? Recipes to share?

Sounds like you are going to have lots of fun in your kitchen!
Some of us girls - my aunt, my sister, & me - usually go to my G-parents house for a day or half a day to make candy. We make fudge, toffee, peanut brittle, peanut butter cups, butter creams, & maybe some other stuff. Not sure if I'll make it this year b/c of burning up all of my paid time off, but I might have to play hookey for half a day so I don't miss out entirely!

Well, you pretty much know what I always (or usually) do and what kinds of cookies and candies I will make. I vary it from year to year according to what I might be in the mood for or what new recipes I want to try. This year I have made 4 kinds of cookies so far, and only one of them was on the list of cookies I had *planned* to make! I've also made 2 batches of fudge and several other kinds of candy, plus some hot chocolate mixes.

Certain cookies/candies are a must every year. The short list would probably include eggnog logs, sacher torte cookies, whipped shortbread, and heavenly delight fudge.

Mary Ann -- what a fun tradition! Hope you can manage to get there for part of it. And Carrie -- have fun baking with the kiddos. These years pass all too quickly.

Love cooking with my girls. They are so fun , and have the most adorable little aprons they love to wear. For several of our friends and families, I went to craft store and got the little Christmas Chinese type take out looking boxes, and that is what we will put our goodies in. We normally make, Snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, peanut butter fudge and regular fudge.
I always make my dad a coconut creme pie because that is his favorite. I enjoy reading your blog. Adorable fam.
