A Homemade Life

This was another busy week, and I didn't get much crafting done, or much homemade anything, for that matter, other than the usual cooking and baking! But here are a couple things I did do. First, we made homemade bubbles for blowing! All our regular bubble solution was gone, and I knew it was easy to make, so I did a quick search online and found a recipe that used water, dish soap, and sugar. Prettyt simple! And it worked well. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough with the camera to actually get a picture of bubbles (Sam's kept popping just as soon as he blew them), but you can see that he had fun with the process, anyway. :)
I also whipped up a little peasant style shirt for Julia. The fabric is the same as the shirt I made myself last week. And the skirt is from that free pattern that I linked to a few weeks back. I'm going to be making myself a skirt from this fabric too, so we'll have complete matching outfits. :)
Something neat about this shirt pattern: I found it among a bunch of vintage patterns that my grandmother gave me a couple years ago. It's from the early 1980s, and my grandmother apparently made shirts for Joanna and me from it, because the size 2 was already cut out, and our measurements were written on the pattern envelope. I don't remember what our shirts looked like, but I wouldn't be surprised if my mom has a picture of us wearing them somewhere, or maybe the shirts themselves even survived among the clothes she saved from our childhood. Anyway, it was a super easy pattern and I'll probably be using it again! It's nice and breezy for summertime. :)
I couldn't resist posting this close-up of our little blondie-pie. I know I'm a bit biased, but she is just so precious! :) And I'm thrilled that we finally got some pigtail elastics that stretch enough that she doesn't scream when I'm putting them in!!
And finally, here's a new picture of our garden. I know several of you have asked how it's growing . . . well, I'm pleased to report that almost everything has come up now! The corn, beans, peas, and lettuce are doing especially well. And this week, the watermelon, cucumber, and pumpkin plants came up! I'm so excited. It'll be time to build a trellis thingy soon, for the tall plants to climb up. And I need to do a little thinning soon, too.
Hope you've enjoyed this little glimpse of our homemade life for this week! Mr. Linky isn't back up yet (for those of us with the standard membership, anyway), so if you want to leave a link to a post, just leave it in the comments. Thanks!

I have just posted a recipe for homemade fajita mix. Hope the link works. It messed up quite spectacularly when I was copying and pasting it!
