This and that

Well, I haven't been doing too well keeping up with the blog this week . . . things have been busy! Josiah is officially 2 weeks old, as of tonight. It seems like he's been around longer than that! We are doing fine and adjusting well. He is such an easy baby so far! I can't believe how well he sleeps at night. I am not a fan of scheduling my babies' feedings and they have never slept through the night at an early age--which doesn't really bug me that much, because it's such a short season of life when you look at the big picture. :) But anyway, this little guy only wakes up about once most nights; occasionally twice. He eats plenty during the day, but he really likes his nighttime sleep, so you won't hear any complaints from me. :) He had a checkup on Tuesday and is gaining weight just fine, so I am thankful for that. He sleeps in our bed, all swaddled up and cozy, so the nighttime nursing(s) are easy, and I am loving this stage. As a new mom, I used to stress so much about the lack of sleep, but with Julia I finally learned what works for us--nursing the baby in bed with me--and I'm even more relaxed this time around. Thank you, Lord!

Today I took Josiah out grocery shopping and left the other 2 kids home with Jim. I plan to attempt shopping with all of them next week, but didn't feel quite ready for that yet. Josiah did great and slept most of the time we were in the stores. I'm slowly getting back into the swing of cooking and cleaning . . . and trying not to stress about my house not being in perfect order. Again, I know it's just for a season. :) I still have a few freezer meals that I can fall back on in the next week or two. Jim will be back to work next week, so we will be back to "real life" again. Although we'll miss him, it will be great to get back into our usual routine!

I'll try to take some new pictures of Josiah in the next day or two. He hasn't changed too much yet. :) Right now, I'd better wake him up to nurse, then head for bed. Hope you are all having a great week!

Sydney was my best night sleeper right away; but like you guys, we keep our little one in bed with us so it doesn't really matter all that much. I'm always thankful to go through the newborn stage without any sleep deprivation! =) They are such little blessings.

It sounds like you are all adjusting well! Isn't it nice to free yourself from the pressure of getting EVERYTHING done & keeping up with it all? Every once in a while it's no crime to let things slide just a bit ;-) Have a great weekend!

Hooray for little Josiah being such a great sleeper! I have been praying for you every day:). It sounds like all is going well and the adjustment to three has been great for you all. Praise the Lord!

Do you use one of those little "beds" in your bed for Josiah? I borrowed a bassinet last time and this time around, our bed is in a new room and the space is much tighter so I don't really know if I want to invest in a bassinet. I am still undecided as to where to put this poor little guy. I really don't want him at the foot of the bed:(.

So glad to read an update. I found #3 to be very easy. I think the real reason was I had changed. It is so much fun watching the older ones with the little ones. Have a great day with all your little ones. -Joey

Thanks everyone for the sweet comments and the prayers!

Tricia, it's unbelievable how much more rested I am, just from having the baby in our bed. I LOVE it! :) And yes, they are such blessings.

Mary Ann, it is definitely nice to not pressure myself to keep up with things--and after having a baby is one of the only times that I don't feel guilty for doing so, so I'm enjoying it. :) How's everything going with your new house? Hope you are settling in well! Have a great weekend too!

Rachel, we don't use one of the little beds; I just keep him close beside me cuddled under my arm or hand, and I've found I'm very aware of him, so I'm not worried about rolling on him or whatever. But if you or your hubby is a really heavy sleeper, you might want to get one--I think they're called a Snuggle Nest. We will eventually move Josiah to a pack 'n play in our room, but right now this is what works well for us, and it's so nice to not have to fully wake up (unless he needs a diaper change)--I can just latch him on and go back to sleep. :)

Joey, I think you're right about why #3 is easier. I'm a lot more relaxed with the whole mommy thing now. :) There are some ways that #3 is a bigger adjustment for me, but it mostly has to do with keeping up with the older kiddos, not with the baby!

AWESOME news about Josiah's sleep patterns! I used our boppy pillow to have Clive sleep in bed with me several times in the first few weeks. It's so much nicer to get the feeding done quickly and get right back to sleeping.

Amen to not stressing as much about your house right now. Enjoy these newborn days and get as much rest as you can!
