This 'n that

I admit, I was disappointed with the primary results--I had hoped for at least a 4th place finish for Ron Paul, if not 3rd. I was glad overall that McCain beat Romney, though. And I was surprised that Hillary managed to pull off a first place finish for the Democrats. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the primaries go. I heard some "experts" speculating that the Republicans, at least, could end up with 4 different candidates winning the first 4 primaries. It'll be fun to see how it all plays out over the next month or so!

We did try our new ice cream maker last night, but I was disappointed with the results of that too . . . not with the ice cream maker, but with my own user error. :) I didn't chill the custard mixture long enough, so the ice cream stayed soupy and never actually became ice cream. But we put it in the freezer, so hopefully by tonight it will be more the right consistency. I look forward to better results next time, since I've read the directions more carefully now!

I updated my pregnancy blog yesterday, for those who are interested . . . and yep, there's a picture too. :)

And just to make you all smile, I'll leave you with this picture of Julia. She's had a thing for hats lately and loves to put them on and be goofy. I captured this shot of her in Sam's winter hat, sometime last week. Enjoy!

I'm interested to know what kind of ice cream maker you got. Is it one that has a big tub with an inner metal canister? That's the kind we have & you have to use ice & rock salt all around the outside & then a motor turn the paddle to make the ice cream. Anyway, we have a wonderful family recipe for homemade ice cream that I can pass along if you would like. It's good enough to kill you dead, but it's fabulous! My sister's first pregnancy was during the summer & we made homemade ice cream at least every other week for her during that time b/c she was craving it so badly. The rest of us didn't mind ;-)

I echo Mary Ann's question. What type of ice cream maker do you have? We have an ice cream ball thing that uses rock salt. The first time we used it we got soupy stuff too so we ended up just putting it in the freezer and it after a few hours it turned out great.

Julia is a doll!

Mary Ann & Alicia, the ice cream maker is actually an attachment for our Kitchen Aid mixer. I got it on Amazon. It's a bowl that you keep in the freezer (it's double walled and the cavity is filled with some kind of freezing mixture, I guess). It seems to be a really easy way to make ice cream . . . and I think it'll work better when I follow instructions and chill the ice cream mixture for 8 hours before mixing it. :) And Mary Ann, feel free to pass along your ice cream recipe!

And the ice cream did freeze up nicely in the end!
