Political chatter

Our NH primary is coming up in 2 days, so my mind has been on politics quite a bit lately! It's exciting to live in the "first in the nation" state. (Yes, I know Iowa already voted--they get the first caucus, we get the first primary. :) A little side note here . . . I was surfing the net Friday, checking for caucus results, and came across an Iowa banner that read: "First in the Nation, Second to None." I guess Iowa doesn't like NH saying we're first in the nation too!)

Anyway, back to the post . . . I admit that I have not studied up on all the candidates as much as I should have, but I do think it's very important to take advantage of our right and privilege of voting! Some of the candidates I ruled out from the start because of various reasons--for example, I wouldn't vote for Giuliani no matter what, because he is not pro-life.

So, Jim and I did our bit of research, talked with others, and narrowed down our choices to two: Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. After a bit more deliberation, we have now definitely decided on Ron Paul. We really like his positions on smaller government, and the fact that he has a very consistent record, plus he is pro-life, pro-second amendment, pro-homeschooling . . . all things that are important to us. The only thing I have been somewhat unsure of is his views on foreign policy and the Iraq war. A while back, my brother-in-law posted an article on his blog relating to this very thing, and you can check it out here if you're interested. It helped to clarify some things for me. Anyway, we are excited to get to vote on Tuesday! Who knows what the end result will be, but the Iowa results were more interesting than I expected, so hopefully the NH results will be, too. :) I am very thankful that God already knows who our next president will be, and that He is in control of everything that happens in our country and world. But I'm also thankful that He's allowed us to live in freedom, and that we have the privilege of casting our vote and having a say in US politics!

Another side note: both of Jim's brothers and my sister and brother-in-law have gotten to meet Ron Paul and have their pictures taken with him when he visited their cities. What cool relatives I have! :) And here we live in NH, where the candidates spend a lot of time, and we haven't gotten to even one political rally. Oh well.

So . . . are you all getting excited about voting? Have you decided yet who you'll vote for?

We've decided to vote for Ron Paul for many of the same reasons that you stated. We watched the debate Saturday night and thought that Ron Paul was very well spoken and on topic. I always get alot out of listening to him.

Another Ron Paul supporter here. Did you know he came to our church a while back? Nathan talked to him about Iraq after the service and we were pretty pleased with his answers to our questions.
