I know I've posted Anne or LMM quizzes here in the past, but I don't know if I've ever asked this question. Jim and I just finished reading Pat of Silver Bush and Mistress Pat together. I had forgotten how good this series was! Even though Pat carries her love for her home to an extreme, and had some definite growing to do in the area of accepting change, I can really relate to her in a lot of ways. That's one thing I love about LMM's heroines--they're so human. :) One thing I appreciate about the Pat books is the emphasis on home and homemaking. Here are just a few little quotes from different parts of Mistress Pat:
"The things in this house are nice," said Cuddles as she rubbed at the spoons. "I wonder why. They're not really so handsome, but they're nice." "They're loved, that's why," said Pat softly. "They've been loved and cared for for years. I love everything in this house terribly, Cuddles."
"I love keeping house . . . it's really a lovely phrase, isn't it? Keeping it . . holding it fast against the world . . . against all the forces trying to tear it open."I really love most of the LMM books I've read (I haven't read quite all of them yet), but I think the Pat series, The Blue Castle, and Rilla of Ingleside are now in a 3-way tie for being my favorites. How about the rest of you? If you've never read an LMM book, go to your library and pick one up--they are delightful!!
Pat made an old-fashioned jelly roll that would cut into golden coils with ruby jelly between them. A pretty cake . . just as pretty as any new-fangled thing.
"While I live and move and have my being I'll want a jam closet," she said decidedly. "And we'll have Judy's rugs on the floor and the old Silver Bush knocker on the door that says 'come in.' "

I can't say that I've read much of LMM. I may have to, now that you have recommended them so highly. I have at least 3 books that I am reading right now - so I do read - ha, ha.
I love the pictures of your flowers. I am so happy for you that your rosebushes are thriving.
It sounds like you are ready to vacuum anything in your path. Look out dirt and dust! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and have fun using your new "toy".
I love Anne of Windy Poplars, but that may be because it's the first and only Anne book I ever owned for years and years. I just fell in love with that one first, I guess. I like The Blue Castle a lot, and Anne of Ingleside... oh, I think it's just too hard to pick a favorite.
I haven't read the Pat books for years; guess I should re-read them. I loved the quotes you shared, especially the one about keeping house.
I have a two way tie: The Blue Castle and A Tangled Web. All her books are good though.
That is so funny that you are blogging about LMM. I was going to share what I was reading: "A Tangled Web."
The Pat series is my favorite. I enjoyed it more than the "Anne" series.
I think LMM is the best fictional writer of all time. I just love her books.
The "Emily" series is great, too.

I have never heard of the Pat books! Thank you for the recommendation. I'm always thrilled to find another old-fashioned series that celebrates homes and homemaking.
Rachel, you should definitely try some LMMs--they are sooo good. :) I am with you on having about 3 books going at once, and there is never enough time to read, is there?! And yes, I am definitely enjoying my new toy!! Our carpets have never been so clean. :)
Mrs. T, thanks for sharing your favorites--and you are welcome to borrow my Pat books anytime. :)
Joanne, I haven't read A Tangled Web for a long time--I'll have to see if the library has it! I do remember it being really good.
Zan, that's cool that you are reading A Tangled Web right now. I agree that LMM was a fantastic writer. And we love the Emily series, too! I have read a lot of her books to Jim and amazingly, he enjoys them almost as much as I do!
Meredith, thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you can find the Pat books and enjoy reading them. Another LMM book that I feel celebrates homemaking quite a bit, is Jane of Lantern Hill. Definitely worth a read! As others have said, most all her books are really good.
