I've been bitten by the sewing bug lately! Actually, I've been inspired by my sister-in-law, Joanne, who has been sewing up a storm for their new baby on the way. I have this adorable pattern for a shirt/capris outfit that I want to make for Julia, and today I purchased fabric and accessories to make it. Here's a picture of the fabric and pattern. I think it will be so fun and summery!!
Before I can make it, though, I am determined to finish two projects that I already have in the works. One of them is something I'm making for a friend (and I think she sometimes reads this blog, so I can't post much about that, as I want it to be a surprise!), and the other is a skirt I started making for myself last year. Over the past two days, I've gotten a lot done on the first project, and I hope to get it finished tomorrow. After that, hopefully I can finish the skirt in a few days . . . then it's on to some little girl sewing!
Does anyone else have any sewing projects (or any other kind of projects) in the works right now?
Well, I really will finish up with my vacation summary soon, but right now I need to get to bed. Hope you are all having a great week!

That outfit looks adorable! I haven't had much luck with making clothes. Someday I'd like to take a sewing class.
I am currently working on a quilt block for Mrs. P. Each person is doing one block and then a couple ladies will finish it in order to present her with a quilt before they leave.
After that, I hope to get back to the quilts I'm making for the kids. Summer is a hard time for me to do any projects, though. Someday I'll finish them!
I would love a sewing machine but am too cheap to pay full price for one. I am not nearly the seamstress that my sister is but I can get by:).
Maybe I should start praying for the Lord to provide one as I would "enjoy" :) making my own window treatments, pillows etc. Much more economical that buying them - I think, anyway.
Have a great time finishing your two projects and making some very cute things for Julia! You will have to post pics of the finished product(s). Have a great day.
I love the material you purcased for the outfit. You'll have to show us what it looks like on Julia after you're finished. Right now I'm trying to finish a cowboy quilt i'm making for Andy's room, and then I have a patriotic quilt I want to make for our family room. Other than that, I'm busy w/ my garden and working on things for the church.
Mindee, I took sewing classes in high school and college, but I really wish I had retained more!! I still have all my notes from the college class which I refer back to sometimes. I think my favorite things that I've ever made have been the flower girl dresses for both my and Jo's weddings. SO fun to sew for kids! :)
I kept meaning to ask if you were getting in on the surprise quilt project. Fun! Quilting is a skill I hope to learn, someday!
I agree that summer is a hard time to make time for projects, but I'm going to try, anyway! :)
Rachel, sewing machines are ridiculously expensive, aren't they?! Keep your eyes open at yard sales and thrift stores, though--you never know what you may find! I was able to buy mine new about 8 years ago, thanks to a generous college graduation gift from my grandparents. It's a Husqvarna/Viking (one of the "low-end" models) and I love it. I got hooked on the Husqvarnas in college because that's what the sewing lab had, and I was tickled to be able to get one of my own! I would also love to get a serger someday, but only could justify it if I was going to be making a LOT of our clothes.
Tracy, the quilts you are making sound so nice! I would love to see pics too, when they're done. I was sorry to hear of the destruction to your garden from the storms! I hope you will at least get some produce out of it. Take care!
Wow, Carrie. Your sewing projects look really neat. I wish I knew how to sew. I want to take a class sometime. Your projects are inspiring me to try to take up a project myself!
The sewing bug hit me also! I am hoping to make the girl's some bloomers & cut out some dresses today (I've had the material for a long time. First I have to clean my sewing room, during the school year it becomes a storage room till I can get to it. Mabye I won't be sewing today! Have fun sewing!! Looking forward to the rest of your vacation post!
We went to JoAnn Fabric yesterday & they had the same outfit in the same material all made! How is your sewing going? I have not made my original plans yet, but mabye today as it is pouring out!
I did make a little ERGO yesterday for Gracie's birthday (today), I can't wait to give it to her. I'll try to e-mail you a picture. Happy sewing!
Joey, that is too funny about Joann's having that outfit all made in the same material! I'm hoping to start sewing Julia's today . . . we'll see how it goes. I also have a lot of housework to do, though.
What a great idea to make a little ERGO for Grace!! I definitely want to see pics of it! Did you ever end up getting one for yourself?
Can't wait to see how that capri set turns out! You've got some adorable fabric picked out for it! Hope it's an easy project for you.
Sigh, I've been so bad about sewing lately what with being tired all the time. I barely have time to fold the laundry and read my Bible in between all the sleeping. I'm hoping to make a skirt for Chloe as my next project but we'll see if it ever happens. :) I have it all cut out, just have to do the gathering and sewing.
Alicia, sorry you have been so tired with this pregnancy! Hopefully things will get better soon. :)
I'll definitely post pics of Julia in her outfit once I get it finished (I have to start it, first, LOL!) :D
