With fall around the corner and cooler days to invigorate me, I've been getting the itch to do some major housecleaning. It hit me this week that I haven't been taking enough pride in the care of my home--there are too many things that I've just let slide over the past year since we moved in. I realized that even though I live in a house that is "under construction," that is no reason to let it get cluttered and dirty! I want my home to feel cozy and comfortable, and "lived-in"--not a sterile showplace, but not a hovel, either! :) Over the past weeks I've taken baby steps toward keeping my kitchen sink shined, and my bathroom presentable, but there are lots of other spots that need attention.
One of these spots was the computer desk, presently located in our bedroom. I'm really embarrassed to even post this "before" picture, but I will so everyone can see the difference! With Jim and I both using this desk for all kinds of things, including his business work, and with both of us being clutterbugs, we had let it get really bad. It was really getting to me every time I walked by! So I finally tackled it today during the kids' naptime. I was able to throw away a lot of paper clutter, find proper homes for a bunch of other things, and reorganize everything else. I dusted the whole desk (I really hate how much dust all those cords collect!), and then wiped it down with a Clorox wipe. I was very pleased with the end result!
Now if we can only keep it this way! I think I'm going to treat the desk like my "shiny sink" for the bedroom, as when it looks nice, the rest of the room looks a lot better. Actually, the same is true of the bed--when it's neatly made, everything else in the room looks much neater, too. So hopefully I can keep these two spots shining from now on!
Paper Clutter Update
A while back, I had posted about my goal of being paper-clutter free by the end of August. I don't think I'm going to quite reach my goal, but I'm happy to say that I'm making progress! I've been doing a LOT better at filing/tossing mail right away, not losing bills in piles of other papers, etc. I'm going to keep working on this!
Weight Loss Challenge Goals
I'm also setting some weight loss goals for myself, over the next few months. I lost the first 20 pregnancy pounds right off the bat, but I still have about 12 pounds to go to reach my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm hoping to reach that goal by Jan. 31, 2007. Sooner would be nice, and probably quite possible, but I want to give myself plenty of time. Once I hit that goal, I'd like to lose another 10 pounds, which would get me down to my pre-Sam weight. :) I'm not going to set a goal date for that yet; we'll see if I make it to my first goal, for starters!
QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Do you all have any goals (of any type) that you're working toward? Share away, if you'd like!
