The Pledge of Allegiance

I'm ashamed to say that I don't follow the news as much as most people, so I don't keep up-to-date on everything that's going on in America. But I did hear about the judge in California who last week ruled that the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance are unconstitutional. Of course, this is nothing new; wasn't there a very similar trial last year or the year before? At the time of the first one, I hadn't yet realized that the words "under God" were not originally part of the pledge. Personally, though, I'm glad these words were added to the pledge, and I find it very sad that a nation that was founded primarily on Biblical principles, for the most part no longer has any desire to acknowledge God in any way, shape or form. Anyway, as I was reading some other blogs today, I came across this "quote of the day" on Mrs. Happy Housewife's blog, and I just wanted to share it here:

From this day forward, the millions of our schoolchildren will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural schoolhouse, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty. (On signing law for inclusion of the words 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance, June 14, 1954)"

--Dwight David Eisenhower

How far we've come in just 51 years . . .
