Jane Austen Novel Quiz

P&P
The Pride and Prejudice type: Truly an Austenite,
this type is a Romantic at heart, but they
always keep their head and are wary of
melodrama. Lively, clever, and independent.
These people are easily amused by their own
foibles and the quirkly foibles of others. They
lament society today, and dream of the time
when guys were gentlemen and girls were ladies.

Jane Austen novel quiz

I saw this on another blog and had to try it myself. I admit (to my shame) that I have yet to read an Austen novel from start to finish . . . but I love "Pride and Prejudice" as a movie (the A&E miniseries especially), and also enjoyed "Emma" (the movie). As I recall, I had read "Emma" in highschool (required reading . . . so maybe I have read ONE Austen novel after all) and hated it. But that was probably about 12 years ago, so possibly my tastes have changed and I would enjoy it now. I'm also one of the few people I know who did not like the movie "Sense and Sensibility." Maybe because I'm not a huge fan of Hugh Grant? Again, perhaps if I saw it now I would have a different opinion. The last time I saw it was my sophomore year in college, and I sat there, thinking what a dumb movie it was, while all the girls around me were going ga-ga over the romance of it all. :) Anyway, so I freely admit I'm not a true "Austenite," but perhaps one day I'll acquire the taste for more of her work than just "P&P."

I'm sure there are plenty of you who are Austen fans, and would have fun with this quiz. I didn't find that you had to be extremely familiar with the books to take it, although a few of the questions probably make more sense if you are.

I read Pride and Prejudice recently and I liked it. I'm suprised you haven't read it yet.

Must admit I've not read Jane Austen either, in spite of Daughter #3's appreciation of her! Would love to see a "Mitford Books Quiz" or even a "Trixie Belden Quiz"... one of those would probably be more my speed.

I have all of Jane Austen's books. They are well worth reading! My favorites are P&P and Emma.

One of these days I'm truly going to read some . . . :) I'm sure I would enjoy them once I sat down and got into them!

I have this huge mental list of other books that I want to read first though, some fiction and some non-fiction. Thanks for the comments! Did anyone else try the quiz? From what I saw, it looks like the majority of those who take it are the "P&P type."

I've read all of Jane Austen's works. I read them back when I had time to read. I enjoyed Persuasion the best and Northanger Abbey the worst. Does that make sense? Emma had some incredibly long areas that were kind of boring. You should read Persuasion especially if you don't know the story or have seen the movie.

I've read all of Jane Austen's books, but it has been a few years. I want to go back and re-read!

The best thing about the books are Austen's characterizations. You can tell she was a student of people, and of her culture. I think I like the books so much because the culture of that day really fascinates me.

I agree with you, Zan...I didn't like Northanger Abbey as much either. Too weird or something.

Just a comment on Northanger Abbey--as you all know, I've never read it, but my hubby and I watched the movie a while back, expecting it to be like the other Austen-based movies we'd seen, and it was just about the weirdest movie we've ever watched. It was creepy! The girl kept having these weird daydreams/fantasies, the characters were all really strange, and to top it off, the music didn't seem to fit at all with the movie. I would definitely NOT recommend this one and I don't think I'll probably bother reading the book (although I'm sure it couldn't have been as bad as the movie!) :)
