Notable Quotables

In my ongoing study of prayer, I've come across several quotes that have really hit me. I'll just share a couple today and save the rest to add to future entries . . .

I'm not sure who originally said this first one, but I love it: "Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer IS the greater work." Thought-provoking, isn't it?

And here's one from Peter Marshall, the great preacher of not so long ago, who was also the chaplain of the U.S. Senate:
"Forgive us for thinking that prayer is a waste of time, and help us see that without prayer our work is a waste of time." That one made me pause and think, too! Do I take the time to pray over all that I do?

Speaking of Peter Marshall just reminded me that another really excellent movie is "A Man Called Peter." It's been several years since I saw this film, but it really made an impression on me. It made me wish I could have heard this man preach. You do get to hear excerpts from some of his sermons on the movie, though. (At least, I'm assuming they quoted his sermons and didn't just make up their own! You never know . . . :)) It isn't a fast-paced or extremely thrilling movie, but just the story of a man who God greatly used for a special calling.

And one more quote that I forgot to share when I wrote about my Mother's Day . . . I received a card from my guys with the words "The Beautiful Mommy" on the envelope. Now isn't that just enough to make your heart melt? It did mine!!

House News

Jim got his planer hooked up and ready to go on Saturday, and started planing the boards that will go on some of our walls. It will be really nice when he starts putting those up, making those walls look so much more finished! My dad did a lot more mudding and taping and I was able to get the first coat of primer on the laundry room. So even though we didn't do tons of stuff, we did make some progress.

Here are a few recent ones of Sam:
He's developed a real sweet tooth! We were given these gummy "fruit" slices that are coated with sugar, and started giving him little nibbles now and then. Well one day last week, Jim had them open and was picking one out for himself, and before you could blink, Sam had reached right in the container and grabbed one, and shoved nearly the whole thing in his mouth! Jim got the camera as fast as he could, to capture the moment. Here it is:

And here's one I love, from Jim's birthday, when we went up to visit him for lunch at the campground. He and Sam had a wonderful time playing on the grass!

Till next time, hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful week so far!

Carrie,
Your mom sent me a link to your blog and I think it's really neat! It's good to keep caught up on what is going on with you, and I really enjoyed the quotes on prayer. I will be thinking about my five fat files, but think that they would be similar to yours. Hope you're having a great day!
I love you!

Hi Gail! I'm glad Mom sent the link to you; I kept meaning to tell you about it myself, but kept forgetting! :) It's a fun way to keep up with a lot of people at once and gives me a little way to do something creative. Thanks for commenting! It's fun to see who's reading. Looking forward to seeing you on Friday! Love you too!
