Anyway, I found a spot for the crate of Christmas picture books, which will forever be one of my favorite parts of December, even though most of my kids are young adults now.
I got out the coffee table runner and added my wooden box of Advent candles, and two rustic wire candleholders I thrifted last year...I really like how they look here, but I may end up moving them for safety reasons (the deer is kind of tippy and I'm afraid it could be knocked over easily...we'll see).
I put up my names of Jesus Advent calendar and my "Merry & Bright" banner that my sister gifted me several years ago, as well as the wreaths that go on either side of the living room picture window.
I sat and watched the snow fall... 😊 And I filled an old metal colander with cookie cutters and twinkle lights (see top pic).
I also put some time into thinking ahead for a family Jolabokaflod I'm planning for the night of the winter solstice. I'm SO excited about this, because it's something that's been on my list to do for a few years now, and I finally broached the idea to the family and we are going to go for it! It's an Icelandic tradition translated "Christmas book flood" where families gift each other new books and sit around and read them all evening. I'm planning a special supper of appetizers and hot chocolate to make it extra fun. I'll post more about that when it's closer to the time (or after it happens) and let you know how it went.
