My New Crock Pot :)

Well first of all, thanks to those who gave me crock pot recommendations! I did some more research and had my choices narrowed down to a round Rival Crock Pot or an oval Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker. I was leaning toward Rival, as it was the only brand I'm personally familiar with . . . but HB had good reviews on Amazon. This is what I ended up with:
It's the Hamilton Beach Stay or Go Slow Cooker, recommended to me highly by two friends! The best part was, I was able to buy the display model from Walmart, because they had no more in stock. Which meant they knocked 10% off the price! And it was still on sale from Christmastime anyway, which means I paid $21.60 for it rather than the $30-ish price tag on Amazon. (They were $29 when we first looked at them, but are now up to $32 there.) Yay! God is good! Unfortunately mine was missing the spoon that goes on top, but considering the super deal, I wasn't worried about that.

I used it for the first time today. I love it! I made venison roast and it worked beautifully. Nothing stuck or burned on the bottom. Now I can't wait to try lasagna, which will be the real test of how well it will do at not burning things! :)

Keep us posted as to how it cooks the lasagna! My crockpot tends to burn things in places at times, and I find it is very hard to get the black stoneware insert looking completely clean. Even if it is thoroughly scrubbed, it tends to leave sort of a white residue where the burned or stuck-on area had been. All that to say, I may be in the market for a new one before too many more months go by, so I am definitely interested in the model you ended up with.

I have been reviewing crock pots too! I have enough Amazon points to get it for nothing and was looking at the same one. I like to take it to Fellowship Dinner and with the long bumpy trip I think it would be good to have the one that seals. I read several reviews that said the seal caused strange rubbery taste...so I thought I would ask you if that happened at all to you? Also, it has been a few days so wondering if you have made anything else. My old one is about 15 years old and had a major accident about 12 years ago and survived (although it sure was not pretty after)...it is finally getting ready to head out the door. -Joey

Hi Joey--I haven't used it for anything else yet, hopefully soon! I really want to try lasagna but I'm all out of ground beef and waiting for it to go on sale again. :) As for the rubbery taste--nothing like that happened with ours at all. That was the main thing that concerned me from the reviews, too. I guess those people must have just had a faulty one or something. I would say if that happened to you, just complaint to the company or send it right back to Amazon! But I think overall they are probably fine. The sealing feature is really nice!! I haven't taken mine in the car yet, but I tried locking it and it seems to have a good tight seal. A lot nicer than taping the lid on. :) That's great that you have enough points to get it for free. If you get one like mine, I'll be interested to hear how you like it! I'll definitely post as soon as I get a chance to make lasagna, too. :) Hope that helps!

Thanks so much Carrie! I ordered it this morning and can't wait!!!
I am looking forward to the sealing lid... I melted a few too many pieces of packing tape to mine:)
Have a great day and thanks again! -Joey
