Goals for a New Year: Mental

Okay, "mental" goals kind of sounds funny. :) But what I mean is goals that help me learn, grow and improve mentally. One of the ways to learn new things and grow in this way is by reading, so this is what my goal mainly involves. This year, I plan to read at least 2 books per month. I'm the type of person who generally prefers to read fiction--I find it fun and relaxing--but I also enjoy reading books that are more "useful." :) So my plan is to read both a "serious" book and a "fun" book each month. I might read more than two if I can fit them in, but for now I will stick with two. Usually I can fly through fiction books and it takes me a while to get through non-fiction!

Here are my two books for January:
and
I actually just finished this one last night, so now I am going to focus on Palin's book, which I found last week at our library (thank you library!--I really wanted to read this one without having to buy it :)) I've read the first chapter already, and it's very good--and not terribly long--but it isn't a lighthearted read like the Heyer book was.

*Do you all have any reading goals for this year? Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction?

Wow, 2 books a month is ambitious! Hope you can stick with it. I'd just like to do more reading in general and right now I'm consumed by the book "Better Off". It's non-fiction and I think you'd enjoy it! It's about a couple who live with the Amish for 18 months and try to see what modern life would be like in the absence of technology. NOT written by a Christian man so it is exercising my discernment muscles big time but it's fascinating!

Yes, I have some goals for this year.
- read through the Bible in one year
- and read at least one book each week throughout the year.

I definitely prefer fiction rather than non-fiction. I like to read to relax and unwind after a busy day.

I haven't set a lot of reading goals. I do a lot of reading in preparation for my Sunday School lessons each week, and I do read the newspaper each day, and often a few pages of a book before falling asleep at night, but that's about it.

I would, however, like to finish reading Essential Virtues, by Jim Berg, this year -- and possibly even complete the study guide. And I would also like to finish reading FlyLady's book Body Clutter. In addition, I have several Bible study books I would like to work my way through. I always have more of those that I want to do! I'm currently working through Cynthia Heald's Becoming a Woman of Grace, and need to finish that so I can get it back to the person I borrowed it from.
