Weighing In: Week 1

I'm so happy to report good progress on my weight loss challenge! I lost 2 lbs. last week--hooray!! This means that I have 2 lbs. to go to get to my pre-Christmas weight, and 11 lbs. total to get to my goal weight. I am going to set a mini-goal for this week to lose 2 more lbs., although I'd be happy with one. I was so encouraged to see that my hard work from last week paid off. Being sick probably helped a bit, too. :) I did well keeping up with my food journal every day, and although I didn't always hit my goal of water consumption, I did come pretty close. I've been kind of doing a loose Weight Watchers points system along with my food journal. Someone gave me a printout of foods/points values a while back, so I've been using that. There are quite a few sites on the web with food lists if any of you are interested . . . it's helped me be more careful of what I'm eating, even though I haven't always stayed within my goal range of points for the day.

This week, I'm planning to jump into exercising. I'd like to exercise 5 days a week with my in-home walking DVD. In the summer, I am actually contemplating taking up running, but we'll see. It's easy to say that I'd like to try that, since it's winter right now and I won't be doing any running outside. ;) However, when summer comes I may change my tune. I have never in my life enjoyed running, but I've seen quite a lot of success stories online and elsewhere from people who started out hating it and ended up loving it, so I thought it might be worth a try.

I recently came across a blog that I'm really enjoying . . . and there were two really good posts regarding weight loss. I thought some of you guys might enjoy reading them too, so here are the links: Weight Loss Tips and Weight Loss Tips . . . Continued . . .
Enjoy!

Thanks to all of you who commented and are planning on joining with me on challenging yourselves to lose weight or get more fit. I'm excited to have some accountability partners!! :) Please share in the comments with how you're doing, so we can encourage each other! Oh, and I am also looking for scale recommendations. The scale we currently have is much like the one pictured--with a needle. It drives me crazy trying to see those tiny little lines and exactly where the needle ends up. I would like to get a good digital one . . . I'm interested in this one on Amazon, but I'm open to suggestions if any of you have a scale that you really like and that seems to be really accurate. Thanks! :)

This week I did really well with exercising. I did my simple exercise routine 5 days out of 7 (which is what I usually aim to do) and went for a walk 4 days out of 7.

I did pretty well with eating healthy through the week, though the weekend wasn't so good. My ideal eating plan is to eat healthfully as much as possible but to allow myself dessert on Sunday. However, this week I ate sweets on Saturday, too. It didn't help that I did a lot of baking that day!

Drinking enough water still needs work, as I don't enjoy drinking water when I feel chilly.

All in all, I'm pleased with how the week went and that progress is being made. Thanks for your encouragement!

I'm glad that you've started seeing results! My only progress so far is to get a good exercise routine worked out. For three days last week, and today as well, I was able to walk for 20 minutes and rebound for another 20 minutes. My aim now is to increase those times so that I'm doing about 50 - 60 minutes of exercise 5 or 6 days each week. I have also been lifting weights. My eating has been okay, but I still need to cut back even more on portion size and avoid snacks completely.
I have just printed off a calendar that I plan to use to keep track of exercising. If placed in a strategic location where it can be seen by others, I might feel more inclined to be consistent with the exercising!
As for the weight loss, I want to lose at least 18 pounds. When I get there, I'll decide if I want, or need, to lose more.

Congrats on your success!!

As for me, I only did the Wii Fit twice this past week, so I didn't make it to the 3 or 4 times I had planned. I will try again this week!

You know the Patch The Pirate Song "Little by Little" well, that is me!I'm working Little by Little, and actually that song carries some encouraging words! :) I am doing better, but I really need to focus. I haven't gotten into the excercise routine yet like I had planned. My goal is 6 days a week/45 minutes a day.
I've been feeling extremely tired lately. I have finally broken down and made an appt. to see the doc for some bloodwork to be done. Thyroid problems run in my family, so I don't know if that is the case, or just Spring Fever! :) I don't want this to be an excuse and I want to get into a steady routine! Once I get excercising that should help with the fatigue also!!! :) Sometimes I get overwhelmed and it helps to hear all of your stories! Thanks! :) I'll let you know how I do in the next upcoming days!!! :)

Congratulations on your progress, Carrie! I am encouraged to hear that you are inching towards your goal. I have no real good news to report for myself. No weight loss, but no weight gain. I walked one mile three times last week. I am starting so slow with the exercise but trying not to overdo it. I have tried to just go with the flow on this recovery process so I don't overdo it but it's hard to stay patient!
