Saturday morning ramblings

A little while ago, I started taking my morning shower while the dishwasher was running. BAD idea. The water started out nice and hot, but proceeded to get colder and colder, and of course I had just gotten my hair full of conditioner. I chickened out! I'll go wash the conditioner out once the dishwasher finishes the wash cycle and my hot water comes back again. :) I admit, I'm a wimp. I don't do well with cold showers. Swimming in cold water on a hot day--well, I can handle that just fine. But it's just something about freezing cold water spraying all over me that I don't do well with!

I can't believe how many posts I've put up here this week. I guess I've been spending too much time on the computer! Today, I'm planning to spend a lot of time away from it, and do some cleaning in various areas of the house that really need it--specifically the kitchen floor! I'm also hoping to wash some new fabric that I will probably turn into a dress for Julia--either that, or a skirt or top for me. I got it for Julia, really, but now I'm second guessing if it's the right weight for the dress I have in mind for her. We'll see what I think once it's washed.

I've been trying to get back on track with Flylady (OK, that's pretty much the story of my life!). I am happy to report that I've managed to keep up with the "swish and swipe" in my bathrooms pretty well over the past 2 weeks. Yay! Just don't ask to see my shower. It needs MORE than a swish and swipe, LOL. But the sinks/counters have remained very clean and clutter-free, which is a big deal for me.

I ordered a couple new books from Amazon on Thursday, one of which is The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, by Jessie Wise and Sara Buffington. I'm really looking forward to starting it with Sam. He seems really interested in reading lately, so I'm going to make a start and see what happens. I'm sure it'll be obvious after a few lessons whether he's ready or not. I don't want to push him if he's not ready, but I do want to encourage his interest just in case he is. My mom was an early reader (age 4, I believe) and I think I learned in kindergarten and was reading chapter books by age 6. So I know it's possible that some kids learn quite early while others aren't ready till later. I recently read a great post on Pleasant View Schoolhouse about this very thing, which was very helpful and encouraging.

Well, I better skedaddle for now. Hope you all have a lovely Saturday!

Carrie,

Swish and swipe, eh? Sounds like what I do already just to keep things from being disgustingly dirty. I've been using vinegar on my shower walls lately - it's the only thing that works to get the hard water stains off.

Be sure to post a picture of the material and new project! I've been trying to finish a shirt for myself for about 4 months now. Sigh.

Oh, and I have a friend who uses the ordinary parent's guide to teaching reading and she loves it! she's using it right now with her 3 1/2 year old boy and it's going very well.
