Sewing some more!

I keep adding new sewing projects to my list. :) My latest accomplishment was sewing this nursing cover-up yesterday, using the instructions I found here (and adapting them somewhat to suit myself). I had been admiring the ones at Peekaboo Baby, but spending $32 for a non-necessity seemed silly, so I was tickled pink when I found do-it-yourself instructions. :) I didn't do quite as well as the lady who wrote the instructions (she spent $8 to make 2 covers), but I was happy with my total cost: $6.44. I spent a bit more getting fabric that I really liked and that was a fairly high-quality cotton. This was a super easy project and I was very pleased with the finished product!
I added a little terrycloth pocket on the lower right corner, just like the "real" ones have--for wiping up baby's mouth, holding a pacifier, etc.

Another project I have been working on lately is making burpcloths for gifts. I found this tutorial at The Sparrow's Nest and adapted it a bit. I used cute flannel prints for the fronts and terrycloth for the backs, and I also embellished the fronts with a strip of ribbon. In packs of 3, tied with a sheer pink ribbon and a cute little tag, these make a really nice, inexpensive gift!

Now I am contemplating trying to sell some . . . What do you ladies think? How much would you think was a reasonable price to ask for a set of 3? Depending on the different fabrics used, they only cost about .50 or so each for the materials. I was thinking maybe $5-6 for a set of 3 . . . I'd love some input! Of course, I may not be doing any sewing for a little while once baby comes, but it's fun to plan a bit.

I've also (finally!) almost finished the Roman shade for the kids' room. I realized I still need to get shade brackets, but once I get those (probably tonight or tomorrow) I'll be able to finish it and hang it up! I'll take a picture or two to post, once it's done. It feels good to have gotten so much sewing done, although other areas of the house have suffered . . . but at 38+ weeks pregnant, doing sit-down projects is much more enjoyable than stand-up ones!! :)

And I updated my pregnancy blog yesterday, for those who are interested! Have a great evening!

Wow, how productive you are!! Good for you, accomplishing so much. Maybe this is that final big spurt of energy one sometimes gets just before giving birth (she said hopefully).

GREAT burpcloths! I was just thinking I'd like to sew some up but didn't really have a good plan. Yours are too cute! I'd say $4-5 per pack of 3.

Isn't it fun to find free sewing tutorials online? I've made aprons and headbands that way.

I take it no baby yet?

I was going to recommend that you sell the coverups before I read further. I love how it came out and the burp cloths are awesome!! I think that $5-$6 is a very reasonable price. There have to be some quaint shops near you that would be willing to sell them. :) I would "shop" online and compare prices of similar products. The price has to be worth your time. You are quite the seamstress!

I would definately pay 5-6 for a 3 pack of those beautiful burp rags!

Great job! I've been making nursing covers a LOT lately - so many new babies here!! Yours turned out so cute! I love the burp cloths and would definitely pay $5-6 per 3 pack and at that price, think I was getting a deal! They are gorgeous and, unless I already had the materials, I would easily be able to justify paying instead of making them. I would think that some people would probably pay up to $10 per 3 pack in the right venue. I agree with Rachel that you should shop online and compare prices! (and then of course let us know when you've got some for sale!) :-)

Carrie, I admire your handiness. I wish I had you here to help me with this crazy house I'm getting tomorrow (it still doesn't seem real!). I'll need roman shades for every window, please ;-) The burp cloths are very nice and I think the price range you have in mind is quite reasonable. Of course, I've never priced burp cloths before...

Those are all gorgeous! I don't know their value since I also have the DIY gene, but you might want to price-check them on etsy.com if there are similar products made by others.

Great job on the sewing! I actually just finished some burp clothes tonight. I used flannel for both sides and mine are more of a square. I like the tutorial you used. I need to make a few more so I think I'll use those measurements instead. Anyways, I had bought some flannel burp clothes for Ethan and they were $7/pack of 3 at Babies R Us. I'd say $5 is a great price for them.

The nursing cover up came out beautiful. I love the fabric you chose. My next sewing project (hopefully tomorow) is to make a ring sling.

I think that is a very reasonable price. I would charge more for a pack of three.
