Fiery trials

Around 10 pm on Saturday night, I was rocking Julia to sleep and drowsily watching the flames flicker in the woodstove. It was so nice and cozy. A thought about fire crossed my mind: that it's so strange that fire, like water, can sustain life or it can destroy life. Fire can be beautiful or it can be deadly and destructive.

Strangely enough, although I had no idea then, at the same time that I was sitting there thinking such profound (ha! :)) thoughts, my grampa's sawmill was burning. We got an email late that night from my mom, letting us know that the mill was gone. No one knows what caused the fire, but by the time someone was driving by and saw the flames, it was too late to save anything. My grampa started this business years ago, and my dad has worked there since before I was born. In recent years my brother has managed the office. My uncle and a cousin also work there, as well as several other men. This was the second time it has burned down; the first time was around 13 years ago. Please pray for my extended family as they make decisions in the days ahead and work on the clean-up process.

It's so comforting to know that God is in control, even in the midst of difficult circumstances!!

Praise the Lord for His protection. I am sorry that it burned but you are right to mention God's control on what takes place in our lives.
