Barn progress

Yesterday the kids and I went over to see how Jim's barn project was going. It's about an hour from here, but thankfully is a very pretty drive (especially at this time of year) and this was our second time to go over in a week. Here are some pictures that give you an idea of the scope of the project and why it has taken all summer and fall to get it to this point! Jim did most of the timber framing himself, and has had his friend Nathan working with him for the past month or so. I am so impressed that just 2 guys (and one other man that helped for a day or two) were able to get this building up!

Here's a picture I took last week, when they were starting to put up the rafters.

This is how it looked yesterday!

And as of today, the fourth (and final) rafter is up! So the hardest part is over with. Next comes closing in the structure. Should be done before the really cold weather sets in, thankfully!
