A look back over the past year

I thought it would be fun to post a few pictures from Julia's first year of life. It is amazing how much a baby changes in the first year!!

Here she is , an hour or two after birth . . . a huge grin at about 2 months old . . .
being scared by her big brother at 4 months old . . .
playing on the floor at 6 months old . . .

starting to crawl at 8 months old . . .
in the highchair at 10 months old . . .

and playing on the deck, at one year old!

As for an 11/12 month update . . . here goes. She is not walking yet, but she is now standing alone quite often. It's fun to see her figuring out how to balance. I have a feeling she'll be like Sam, and will be walking in another month or so. She has 3 teeth now--2 on the bottom and one on top, and the second top one should be through soon. As you can tell, she still doesn't have a head full of hair. :) It is getting really thick in some areas, though, but it's VERY blond, so it doesn't show up well at all in pictures. A lot of people have told me about their daughters or granddaughters who took a long time to get hair, and the general opinion is that when their hair does come in, it's either really thick or really curly, or both. So, we shall see. I would love it if she had curls--but I think little girl hair is cute no matter what. :) I guess I can feel blessed that it has been easy to take care of up to this point, though--no tangles to brush out, no barrettes to try to get her to keep in . . . still, I look forward to giving her pigtails and all sorts of fun things when gets enough hair to play with! She's nursing less these days, though not weaning by any means. I wouldn't be surprised if she weans earlier than Sam did, but we'll see. With both kids, I wanted to nurse at least 12 months, and hopefully more like 18. Sam went 21 months . . . I wouldn't want to go any longer than 2 years, but I hope she sticks with it a while longer. She probably nurses 3-5 times a day, depending how busy we are or how fussy or happy she is on a given day. She's sleeping longer stretches at night now, too, quite often going 5-8 hours at a stretch. We moved her into Sam's room about 1 1/2 months ago or so, and I think she's definitely been sleeping better since then. I loved the convenience of having her right beside our bed, but it's nice to have our room to ourselves again, too. Thankfully Sam is adjusting well to sharing his room, and rarely wakes up even if Julia cries in the middle of the night.

She also does more "talking"--she babbles and squeals more now, and can say "hi" pretty clearly, and sometimes says "bye." (At least I think that's what she's saying!) She also loves to wave and point at things. She is eating new things sometimes--she tried bits of french fries the other night and loved them. It's going to be easier to feed her more varieties of food, now that she's getting more teeth.

All in all she is a busy little girl, and a bundle of fun! We are so blessed to have her.
