Guacamole baby
My plan with Julia is the same as it was for Sam: exclusive breastfeeding until at least 6 months old, maybe longer. After all, she doesn't need solids until then. Her daddy was throwing a monkey wrench in my plan a couple nights ago, though! We had homemade quesadillas with salsa and some guacamole that I threw together at the last minute. I had pretty much scraped the bowl of guacamole clean, or so I thought . . . but Jim didn't want to waste those last little bits that I had missed, so next thing I know, he's feeding little bites of it to Julia! And she was enjoying it! Although she was having a little trouble figuring out how to keep it in her mouth, as usual with babies and the first solid food. :)
Well, she still won't be starting to really eat solids for a while, unless her daddy keeps sneaking tidbits to her whenever she looks at his food with interest. :) It's kind of cool, though . . . I was planning for avocado to be one of her first foods, and it seems that she will probably like it from the start!
By the way, if anyone has a really great guacamole recipe you would like to share, please do! I am so addicted to avocadoes since I was eating a lot of them at the end of my pregnancy!

Hi Carrie! I don't have a "special" guacamole recipe, but mine is: 2 avocados, 2 small tomatoes, 2 minced cloves garlic, some diced white or yellow onion, a tbsp or 2 of lemon juice, chopped cilantro to taste and as much chopped green chile as you like. One of the restaurants that we go to adds some kind of cottagey cheese to their guacamole, & it's the best we've had, but I've never tried it at home.
My favorite avocado foods are chicken tortilla soup with avocado chunks thrown in at the last minute, or open-faced sandwiches with whole-grain bread, stone-ground mustard, Swiss & avocado, toasted. Mmmm.
Avocado would be great as a first baby food- I never thought of it.
I have a really good and simple guac recipe but no quantities - we always make this to taste:
2 avocados
chopped onions
chopped tomatoes
lemon juice
garlic powder
salt
Thanks to you both for sharing your guacamole recipes!
And Samara--I wouldn't have thought of avocado as a baby food either, except I saw that idea mentioned online. From what I've read, it seems that baby cereal (the typical "first food") isn't that easy for babies to digest, so some people suggest starting them off with avocado, pumpkin, sweet potato, etc. I think that's what I'll do this time around . . . and then add applesauce, and other fruits and veggies bit by bit. I used a lot of store-bought baby food with Sam and am hoping to do better with making my own for Julia!
