Calling all readers!

I've been thinking over the past few weeks and months about ways to earn a little extra income from home. I've been inspired by reading the stories of other wives and moms who are following their dreams and being real "Proverbs 31 Women," using their talents and resourcefulness to contribute to the family finances. I am hoping that one of these days, I will be one of them, too! I used to teach piano lesson from home before Sam was born, but felt led to quit that when I became a mom. I'm not sorry I did, but I do miss the bit of income that came in from that little business. Anyway, I am still thinking and praying about it, and I'm sure eventually I will find my "niche" if God wants me to have a home business of some kind. I recently heard about a paid blogging opportunity that I have decided to apply for, from ClubMom. You can read all about it here. Maybe some of my readers would be interested in applying, as well! Now I know for sure that there are a lot of ladies out there who are better writers than me, and I also figure the competition for the blogging jobs (only 10!) will be pretty stiff. I am also not much of a "go-getter," and often don't have much faith in my own abilities. I'm also not sure if I could be disciplined enough to blog five times a week, which is one of the requirements. However, my husband is encouraging me to apply, and I figure "nothing ventured, nothing gained." If this is something God would have me do, then He will work out the details, including giving me the time to put into the job.

Now, this is where I would like some reader input. For the application, they want me to link to 3 of my past blog posts so they can see what my "writing talent and voice" is like. I know I mostly write just about daily life, not really anything profound, but if any of you can think of any past blog entries that you especially enjoyed or think would make a good one to include in my application, could you please comment and tell me? I'm going to be looking back over them all over the next week or so, and if I come up with some possibilities, I will do a post with links to them so you can also give me input on those. Any help that anyone can give me on this would be most appreciated!

I didn't take time to look too far back, but one that I really liked was "What I love about small-town life" back in December. I know it is a short post, but it really showed your writing voice, I think. The one right before that, I think it's called "A Busy Weekend" was also good. And I liked the one about Sam turning 2, where you listed all of his milestones. Just a few ideas!

Carrie,

I enjoyed your wedding picture posts. I really like all of your posts. You do a great job of writing succinctly and honestly infused with humor.

I have a part time online job and it i s nice not only to add a few hundred bucks to our family each month but also to have an outlet that isn't associated with mommyness. It's a getaway for me to work online and to be just alicia for awhile. The blogging job sounds great (in theory) but I think it would turn my blogging to addiction rather than just a fun pasttime.

I really don't have anything to back this up except your blog but it sounds to me that you put a lot of time into your mommy role. I've always been impressed with your cooking efforts and skills. Don't discount your mommy gifts! Keep up the great work in the most important job in the world - being a mom. :)

I think any of your posts where you just muse about life and family would be good! I always enjoy reading them!

I too loved the wedding posts, although since they are mostly pictures they may not showcase your writing as much. Let us know what you select!

I enjoyed reading the post about kids rooms on your other blog. Have you considered using any of those posts?

Thanks to all of you for the great suggestions!!! I haven't completely decided for sure, but I'm leaning toward using 2 off my pregnancy blog--the kids' rooms one that Joanne mentioned and also Sam's birth story--and probably something off this blog, but I'm not sure which one yet.

Alicia, thanks for the good reminder that my job as a wife and mommy is THE most important one! I completely agree. I think my main concern with if I actually got picked to do this, is not that I would get addicted to blogging, but the opposite--that I would quickly get tired of blogging 5 times a week and would run out of ideas of things to write about! Well, we will just wait and see what happens. :)
