This 'n' That on a Snowy Day

We woke up to beautiful flakes fluttering down outside. After a Saturday that felt like spring (high 50s--weird!) and a cold Sunday, today was back to traditional winter. Very pretty to look at, but not so much fun to go out in. We did, though--I went to a dr. for help with a UTI (see my preg. blog for more on that), but thankfully Jim was willing to drive me there.

After a kind of lazy day, I now have a chicken roasting for supper and potatoes boiling on the stove, for mashed potatoes. I'll probably cook some frozen veggies to complete the meal . . . sounds good for a winter night. Here's a tip for roasting chicken that I tried recently--use Montreal Chicken seasoning on it. Just sprinkle on liberally and roast as usual. This makes a fabulous, tender chicken that will melt in your mouth!! And it smells oh-so-yummy while cooking, too. :)

We were at Sam's Club on Saturday and I found Pride and Prejudice (A&E version) on DVD for $16.97. Just couldn't pass that up, so there went the rest of my spending money. :) We have been enjoying watching it over the weekend, though.

Here are a couple bumper sticker quotes for your enjoyment:
"Midwives help people out." (seen in my midwife's office)
"Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my gun ever has." Gotta love that one!!

Well, I better go check my potatoes and play with my son while supper finishes cooking. Have a lovely evening, everyone!

I once found A&E's Pride and Prejudice DVD being sold at a video store for $5.00. I snatched that up! I was SO excited...until I got it home and realized it was only one of the two-disc series...only HALF of the movie! And you know where the first half ends too...right when Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are never going to speak to each other again. So depressing! Sigh.

Erin--what a bummer to only get half the movie!! Guess you found out why it was so cheap, LOL! :)

Mindee, you can borrow ours sometime if you want! Have you seen the A&E version before? I know the library has the BBC version--which is also good--but this one is longer and I like it better. I've heard good things about the new P&P, as well, but I'm not sure if I want to see it . . . but I might, just to compare it with the others. I just can't imagine anyone being better than Colin Firth & Jennifer Ehle as Darcy & Elizabeth! I just love to watch the tension (turning to love) between them!

Oh, and we will plan to stop by next time we're at Sam's! :) Thanks for the mandatory invitation! :D I wasn't feeling the best this time, or we might have done so . . . but Sam and I were both tired and cranky!

The new Pride and Prejudice release date is actually February 28, 2006.

Mindee, let me know how you like the new P&P version, and let me know as well if you'd like to borrow ours! I think it's 4 +/- hours long, but well worth it. :) I loved that bumper sticker quote, by the way!! Too funny!!

Zan, I was able to find a few sites that had the Kennedy sticker by doing a Google search under "bumper sticker Ted Kennedy." I actually misquoted it a bit, I guess--the ones I saw just said "Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my gun." It was quite a while ago that I saw it on a truck somewhere. I came home and told Jim about it and he said, "Yeah, I've seen that before, but I didn't get it." So then I had to fill him in on Teddy's history. :) Then he got a good laugh out of it. One of the sites I found (I think it was bumperart.com) had some other good pro-America or pro-gun stickers that were pretty funny, too.

Carrie,

This doesn't have to do with your post but I wanted to tell you that your chicken mandarin orange salad was a success in our home yesterday! I made it for lunch and although I didn't have all the ingredients, it turned out wonderfully. We always have spinach on hand so it was a great way to use it up.

God planted an idea in my head this morning. Would you be interested in cooperating on a recipe swap blog? I'm always searching for new recipes and although allrecipes.com is great I'd rather use tried and true recipes passed on by friends. Let m e know what you think. I'm thinking each month we could have a theme - one dish dinners, hearty soups, main courses with 5 ingredients or less - that kind of thing.

Hope all is well with your uti. I'm sure the docs told you this but I recommend cranberry juice and yogurt for future prevention and quick recovery. Sounds like your pregnancy has been rough so far! God will give you the strength you need. Hang in there,
Alicia

bZan, you're right, my hubby's not from around here . . . he's from OH. :) Yes, it was sad when the Old Man fell--and seems weird not to see him every time we go up there. :( We were visiting family in OH when it happened, and Jim's mom read it in the paper there. At first I thought she was kidding, then I realized it was true.

Alicia, I'm glad your family enjoyed the salad! I bet it was good with spinach. Yes, I think a recipe swap blog is a terrific idea, and I would be happy to participate! Just let me know when you get something set up. I have LOTS of favorite recipes I could share . . . many of which come from my mom (who's an awesome cook) and many of which come from several years' worth of Quick Cooking and Taste of Home subscriptions. :) I love to cook and bake!

The UTI is much better--and yes, I drink lots of cranberry juice. I have cran/rasp. (100% juice) every day, actually. Plus I take cranberry capsules! I could work on eating more yogurt, however. My pregnancy actually hasn't been too bad, other than the UTI and sciatic trouble. But that's basically straightened out now that we have the new mattress. :) I'm so thankful I haven't had much heartburn to deal with so far--by this point with my first, I was having a lot of trouble with it. So far so good!
