Frugal Friday--Rite Aid Rebates

I've been so very inspired by reading the series that Crystal over at Biblical Womanhood is doing on Supermarket Savings. If you've missed these great articles, be sure to check them out!!!

Anyway, this week I felt a tiny bit like Crystal must feel when she gets all those good deals, as I discovered a way to get a few things for free at Rite Aid! I thought it would be fun to share my experience for Frugal Friday, hosted by Biblical Womanhood. Now, I rarely shop at Rite Aid, even though there is one right in our town, so I usually haven't paid much attention to the sale fliers that come in our mail every week. Just a couple weeks ago, though, I happened to be perusing one, and saw that they had several offers for things that you could get free with a rebate. So I went in that week and got a Colgate toothbrush and toothpaste, which were 2 of the only items I was interested in. Apparently you can only get one rebate per offer, which is why I only got one of each item. Anyway, I really was clueless as to how the rebate system worked (and the cashier wasn't much help when I asked him, either). So when we came home, I did a little checking online, and found this site, which is where you can sign up to get the rebates. You simply register, then enter information from your store receipt. It can take from 1 to 7 days for their system to check your receipt and figure your total rebate, but they send you an email when it's all figured out. Then you can either request your rebate check right away (they send it via mail), or wait and record more receipts and request the check later (that's what I'm doing). The key is to remember to request your check before the monthly deadline. (October's rebate period ends on the 28th, but the deadline for requesting your check is November 11.) I think it'll be a fun way to save some money, and I will update again once I've gotten the check to let you all know if it goes smoothly!

Here's an example of how much you can save; this is the stuff I bought today:

*1 box (20 count) Celestial Seasonings tea--on sale for $1.99. FREE after $1.99 rebate
*1 Jet Dry Orange (dishwasher stuff)--on sale for $2.99. Total: .99 after $2.00 rebate
*1 Lysol toilet bowl cleaner--on sale for $2.99. Total: .99 after $2.00 rebate
*1 Oral B toothbush (one of the more "fancy" ones, originally $4.49)--on sale for $2.79. FREE after $2.79 rebate
* Confirm Clearly pregnancy test 2-pack (NO, I'm NOT pregnant--I can just see the eyebrows going up, LOL! But those things are expensive, and I figure I'll probably be needing it SOMETIME! :))--on sale for $10. FREE after $10 rebate
*1 pkg. Lansinoh Clean & Condition Cloths for babies (70 count)--$3.99. FREE after $3.99 rebate

So, I spent $24.75 on those 6 things. Once I get my rebate, I will actually have only spent $1.98 on those 6 things! I was pretty excited! I hope this info may be helpful to others who have Rite Aid stores near them, too.

Oh, I know!! Isn't it fun? We have a rite-aid here (it's the only place I can get free-with-rebate stuff here) and my mom and I both go whenever there's free stuff. :) This week we got tea, toothbrushes, Kashi cereal, and pregnancy tests! haha My mom gave me her pregnancy tests though (since it was a limit one! lol). They were out of the Lansinoh wipes :( That is the one annoying thing about our Rite-aid. Frequently (probably 1/3 of the time!) they are out of the free item, and you can get a raincheck BUT the rebate is only good when it's bought within a certain timeframe... so you have to get a raincheck and hope they have the item in stock later in the week... but I never make a special trip because so often they're out of things!

We get hair gel, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and lots of other stuff at Rite-aid! And it's so convenient to get the rebates submitted online. My mom doesn't have internet, so I submit hers in her name for her each week (from our house).

One month I FORGOT to request the rebate checks. I was freaking out because the checks were for about $25 for both my mom and me! I was so worried, but then they told me that as a courtesy they "requested" the rebates for us, and they came in the mail. Phew! I don't know if they do that every month if you forget (I don't want to have to find out!!) but I was happy about that. :)

Okay... 'nough rambling... :)

I've never heard this! I guess I'm
going to go back over and read Crytal's tips! That would save a ton of money!

Thank you so much for posting it!

I checked online...no rite-aids anywhere near here. Sounds good though - for you.

Sad - I looked too and there aren't any Rite-Aids anywhere near us either.

Tammy--thanks for your comment! I'm glad you're able to take advantage of the rebates, too. I'm really having fun with it! Too bad about the Lansinoh wipes--I got the very last package at our Rite Aid!

Tracy--thanks for your comment! I hope you were able to get some good inspiration from Crystal's tips!

Charissa--thanks for commenting!! I'll definitely be back to visit your blog and catch up on your life some more. I can't believe you have already been married for a year. Wow! I'm glad we were able to get back in touch!

Joanne--bummer! :( Maybe you could check out other drugstores like CVS or Walgreens if you have any nearby; I've heard sometimes they have good deals and rebate type offers, as well.

Mindee--yay for the CVS bucks! I wish we had one of those closer to us, too. I don't know if you read Crystal's shopping posts, but she mentioned saving a lot of money there. Hope you can, too!

Sandra--again, bummer. :( But you may be able to find something similar at another store, seeing as I think you're in a pretty well-populated area where there should be some good deals to be had!

Carrie,

I just wanted to let you know about those pregnancy tests we got... they're defective! I discovered this after thinking I was pregnanct for 5 days. We were telling everyone our "news" and were alerted to some people having problems with those tests. Sure enough, I'm NOT pregnant! My husband took two of our re-fill "tests" with HIS urine and it said he tested positive on one of them. What a joke. Just wanted to let you know. I blogged about this here:
